TIMELINE:

ยท United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Conference (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP11/MOP1), December 2005

o Coalition of Rainforest Nations led by Costa Rica and Papua New Guinea present a formal proposal for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from deforestation

o Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), including Environmental Defense, and some scientists again call for forests to be included in the emissions trading market established by the Kyoto Protocol.

o Ministers request Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) to evaluate avoided deforestation and climate change mitigation and report back to COP13/MOP3 in December 2007.
